Baroness - Blue Record

Mogwai

Ah yes, more post-rock.

The Decemberists...ROUND 2

The Decemberists, more than anyone, deserve and encore. With the more than spectacular "rock opera" The Hazards of Love that I posted when the blog was a wee lad, I should have known one album would not be enough. There is never enough to say about The Decemberists.

The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love

The Decemberists - Picaresque

The Decemberist - The Crane's Wife

The Decemberist - Castways and Cutouts

Explosions in the Sky

Post rock, a little more exciting than Do Make Say Think. If you haven't listen to any post rock this is a wonderful place to start.

Kick ass album art too,.

Dinosaur Jr - Where You Been

The Polyphonic Spree

Yes! According to Wikipedia this is a " choral symphonic pop rock band". Not at first this may not sound so appealing, but if you give it a listen it gets you excited. The music seems to always be growing to no where so through out many of their songs you get butterflies in you stomach while you anticipate the end of build.

The Arcade Fire

The Arcade Fire is one of my favorite indie groups. They are so catchy and addicting without being poppy. This is their discography.

Funeral is the debut album and it has their most upbeat and fun songs. Vintage 2004
The Arcade Fire = Neon Bible

Neon Bible is their sophmore attempt and in my opinion the best. It has a darker sound and the whole album has a creepy sound.  Vintage 2007
The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

The Suburbs is their 3rd album and it is incredible. Very mixed sound and very good. Vintage 2010

The XX

The XX is another indie band from London, but unlike most indie-rock bands they actually have a good singer.

Omar Rodriguez Lopez (A MUST LISTEN)

Guitarist and Producer of The Mars Volta has released 23 solo albums since 2004(21 of them coming since 2007). They are all different and each one has its own 'genre.' That leaves describing them nearly impossible, but Rodriguez's playing style can be describe with long improvisational effects laden mash of sounds...often times leaving you with the feeling of a mindfuck. So without further ado my favorite musician, Omar Rodriguez Lopez!!!

Good Old War

Very relaxing, very up beat. This is a inde band that actually has a good singer. To sum it up, they are fun to listen to.
Props to Trevor Coen for this one!

Oceana

There is too much to say about them...Through out their two albums and one EP they have some drastic changes. From being hardcore they have made a transition into alternative (maybe even indie-ish). The albums become less hardcore as you progress in time.
All three albums/EPs will be posted because each one sounds like an entirely different band. They are going to be posted from oldest to newest.

Carbonized

Death-Jazz-Progressive-Experimental-Metal = Carbonized. Disharmonization, their sophomore album is the spaciest of their three albums. Listening to this is a loud mindfuck. ENJOY

Coheed and Cambria

Now, I bet you're thinking, "Professor, Doctor, is this you guys do all day?". The answer is of course, yes! Luke and I spend most of our days listening to music so we might as well tell people about it. But let's get down to brass tacks...

Coheed and Cambria are a bit punk, a bit progressive, a bit of everything.

The Band

The Band was one of the best. Their sound cannot be replicated by anyone ever. The Band made some of the greatest music in the 60's and 70's much of it comparable to The Grateful Dead. In my opinion they are the most critically underrated band of all time and Stage Fright is in my opinion their greatest album.

This would be just another run of the mill Indie rock band but they have something that sets them apart. Their singer. Allow his Scottish accent to bring a breath of fresh air into you music library.
